Poker Movies: Top 5 Films about Poker

Poker Movies: Top 5 Films about Poker

Since the golden age of the Western, poker playing has always been a popular theme in Hollywood. Although many of the Hollywood films that feature poker are not very good and some of them even display poker in a ridiculous manner, watching poker action on the big screen is great fun, especially if you play poker yourself. Here are the best poker movies that were ever produced in Hollywood. Some of the movies are actually excellent movies regardless to their display of the poker game, while in others the "poker game" s is the feature that makes them worth watching. However, if you are a poker fan, add these movies to your musts list. The Sting directed by George Roy Hill in 1973 "The Sting" is less about poker and more about the art of card sharking but it will provide you two hours of sophisticated fun. The 1973 Academy award winner features young Paul Newman as the greatest con artist of them all who mentors young Robert Redford in the art of trickestry. David S. Warn screenplay is based on true con games stories. The Cincinnati Kid directed by Norman Jewison in 1965The classic stud poker film known for its climatic final hand and the unforgettable quote: Gets down to what its all about, doesn't it? Making the wrong move at the right time. In short, "The Cincinnati Kid" is about the battle between Steve Macqueen who plays a young poker player also known as The Kid and the veteran poker gambler known as The Man who is played by Edward G. Robinson during the Great Depression in New Orleans. It may not appear at any other list of best movies, but it certainly has one of the best poker scenes ever seen on the silver screen. California Split directed by Robert Altman in 1974 "California Split" may not be the pick of Robert Altmans creation, but is one of the best movies to depict the messy everyday life of two professional gamblers played by George Segal and Elliott Gould. Like in many of Altman films, the narrative is not particularly straight and the end is not necessarily happy, but it does succeed in describing an authentic experience. Additionally, poker trivia fans would be thrilled to learn that poker legend Amarillo Slim plays a small role.Rounders directed by John Dahl in 1998It is hard to tell whether the movie pushed to the 21st century poker boom or the rise in the popularity of poker during the last decade made Rounders a cult hit. However, Rounders is one of the best poker films to display the contemporary high stake poker scene. The core of the movie is a long poker marathon in which Mat Damon and Edward Norton are trying to earn money to pay off the latter gambling debts. World Series of Poker champion Johnny Chan plays a featured role. Maverick directed by Richard Donner in 1994Although Maverick is not the most brilliant film ever made and some of the poker scenes are kinda silly, it is a fun and lightheaded poker movie. It might even provide you a basic idea on what it was like to be a rambling gambler in the old west card scene with Mel Gibson as a maverick who tries to earn enough money for the big five card draw poker tournament.

The Business Of Factoring & How It Works

The Business Of Factoring & How It Works

Factoring, also known as accounts receivable factoring, is a business term used to describe a method in which companies sell their outstanding receivable invoices in order to gain immediate cash for their business. When a company sells a product or service, an invoice is created stating the amount due and the number of days in which the invoice must be paid. This invoice instantly becomes a part of accounts receivable, which is money that is owed to a business. After the invoice is generated, it must be sent to the customer and the business must wait for the specified amount of time before that invoice is paid. Often times, for reasons of misfortune or lack of attention, a debt may go unpaid and extend past the due date. This presents a problem for the business, which is awaiting payment, in that it interferes with the cash flow when a debt is not collected. This is especially true of new, or struggling, businesses. The process of factoring works when an institution purchases the invoice for an amount that is somewhat less than the face value of the debt. This amount can be anywhere between 70-90%. The factoring company then proceeds to collect the full amount due for the invoice, which is then delivered to the original business less a factoring fee. If a business offers credit terms as part of their sales, factoring is one way of eliminating cash flow problems. Many businesses who use factoring receive their money, from the sale of their invoices, within 24 to 48 hours. This unique approach also offers a company with the ability to extend competitive credit terms to their best customers and not have to worry about waiting for the credit payments. By offering attractive credit terms, more customers will be drawn to a business. Most businesses compete in pricing, but a company is much more appealing if they offer financing options direct to their buyers. Many consumers do not have the funds to pay for items upfront, especially if a business markets more expensive sales, but a customer may be able to agree on delayed payments. Therefore, a business offering such a deal would sell more inventory than a company who requires total payment upfront. Its important to realize that factoring is not a loan or a debt. In addition, unlike bank loans, collateral is not required. Its simply the sale of invoices, on which people owe money, to another business for a slightly smaller percentage than the total due. The original business gets immediate cash and, for a fee, the factoring company collects the face value of the debt. Many businesses, who extend credit, opt for factoring in order to avoid the hassle of trying to collect money. In addition, it costs more to have a billing department who is responsible for creating invoices every month. By factoring, a business eliminates their need for a billing department and saves money on the hassle of attempting to collect debts. The cash generated from factoring will allow a business to purchase new equipment, pay existing debts, increase marketing efforts, improve planning, process new credit approvals, improve customer relations and save money on accounting procedures.

Ultra-fast thermal label saves print heads

A company has launched the first of a new generation of top coated thermal self-adhesive roll label materials, Taktik Themprint Advantahe Ultra-Fast.This latest development in thermal imaging technology provides a labelling medium for bar coded price-weigh and box-end labelling requirements on a wide range of machines. Its top coating provides excellent image protection of the thermal coating which needs less heat to create sharp bar codes and dense black text, says the manufacturer. This heat reduction ensures a longer print head life without loss of printability.Thermprint Advantage Ultra-Fast promises as especially speedy thermal response which suits the latest fastest thermal printers. However, this new label material also runs well on older thermal machines and will prolong print head viability when their settings are lowered. Printing speeds up to 12 inches (300mm) per second can be accommodated.A further advantage of Thermprint Ultra-Fast lies in its ability to avoid the high print energy required to print thermal images clearly through printing inks and glossy varnish in various supermarket price-weigh applications. The use of high print head energy has caused premature print head failure with replacement costs, depending on the machine, of up to 1000 each. The new Thermprint labels will activate at lower energy and can overcome the insulating effect of ink and varnish more easily than existing products.
